Wake spun another beauty, going 9 and giving up only two runs. He didn't get the win or credited for a complete game, but this guy is on a roll and more valuable to the team than most of us realize.
Papi got number 43 to get us even in the seventh. Good thing because it help set up a painful 10th.
Graffanino, who's been solid, leads off with a double. Johnny moves him to third with a ground out to second. So we've got a guy on third, one out. The A's then deploy an infield I have never actually seen used. They pull the left fielder and have 5 infielders, all playing for the play at the plate.
Renteria comes up and works the count to 3-1, then gets plugged in the elbow. Papi comes up and the A's do the smart thing... they walk him. Up comes Manny. I think he's going to hit a walk off slam... wrong. He too gets hit and in come the winning run. It was painful, but worth it.
Of Note: Youkilis started at first with Millar in right and Trot on the bench with the tough lefty pitching. The defense was pretty solid this game turning over some noce plays in the infield. The only exception was Johnny dropped a pop up he had to run a real long way for looking into the rain.
