Well baseball fans, we lovers of the Boston Red Sox continue to bask in the glow of last October. So many spring trainings we looked forward to “maybe it’s our year!” I still can’t believe we get to go through a whole season of being The Defending World Series Champs!!!!!
With the core of them coming back I like our chances to compete once again. I really didn’t want to see Pedro go but the price was too rich. Look at the Patriots, a bunch of good players but no one guy that makes way too much money at the expense of the rest of the team. That sounds like the strategy Theo is going to be taking with the Red Sox in the years to come. I love Manny, but don’t expect to see any more $20M guys in Boston too soon.
Too bad Dave Roberts and Derrick Lowe had to go. I know it really wouldn’t be fair to keep Roberts on the bench but I really enjoyed the base stealing threat late in the game. We’ll always love him for that steal in game 4 against the Yankees. As far as Derrick I think he’s going to return to his 2002/2003 form, but apparently Theo didn’t want a 4 year risk on him.
We picked up some new arms and a new short stop, plus we have some young guys vying for a spot on the team. All in all it’s going to be a good ride this year.
