3/10/06 Red Sox 2006 - Who are these guys?

Who are these guys? Will they be better than last year? Good questions.

The 2006 version of the Red Sox should be better than last years. We have better pitching (definitely), better defense (hopefully) and still should score a bunch of runs.

We have most of the core back in Tek, Manny, Popi and Trot. Youk gets his chance to shine. These guys should their usual solid year.

New comers Lowell and Loretta are coming off down years. Will they bounce back? They better. Gonsalez brings a rep of being a glove man, let’s hope he remembers how to use it and not forget like Renteria did. Plus, how much worse can Gonzalez be at the plate?

I hated to see Johnny go, but Coco is 90% Johnny right now with a huge upside. I think Coco will be hard pressed to meet Johnny’s OBP, but I think we upgraded defensively.

Schill appears healthier, we have Beckett and Papelbon, Boomer is back, Arroyo and Wake should be solid. The rotation and the pen much improved on paper. If someone gets hurt or stinks it up there’s plenty of arms this year to fill gaps.

No ones wins without a good stopper. Let’s hope Foulke puts last year behind him and is ready for prime time again this year.
